Since its establishment in December 2004 , the IIUM Arabic Debating Club has come a long way. From a small club consisting of several debaters, it has now grown not only in the number of its members, which comes up to at least 60 students, but also in the number of its impressive achievements.
Among its achievements throughout the past years are providing weekly debate training classes which are open to all IIUM students, especially those who interested in honing their skills as a debater and also organizing the very first IIUM Inter-Department Arabic Debating Championship in May 2005 . The competition was successfully held with support from both local and international students from various departments and Kulliyyahs of the University and proved to be fruitful when a number of its participants were talent-spotted. They had eventually chosen to represent the University in the 3rd Intervarsity Arabic Debating Championship where both IIUM teams emerged as the Champion and the 1st Runner Up. The Intervarsity Arabic Debating Championship is annually championship organized by Majlis Debat Universiti Malaysia (MADUM) and hosted by several higher learning institutions in Malaysia such as IIUM, UMT and USIM. The Arabic debate team of IIUM also successfully became the 1st Runner Up in the 1st ASEAN Arabic Debating Championship in 2006 .
In the university level, IIUM Arabic Debating Club plays an important role to enhance and upgrade the Arabic speech and communication skills among the students. It was proved by the performance of debaters in communication and speech. IIUM Arabic debating club also organized such programmes to prepare the platform to the students to speak and communicate in Arabic such as weekly Arabic debate training class, annually Arabic debate camp, annually Inter-Kulliyyah and Inter-Mahallah Arabic Debating Championship, one day workshop, and family day.
Nevertheless, the IIUM Arabic Debating & Public Speaking Club would not sustain unless with the enormous efforts, dedication and commitment of all the members and support from our advisor, trainers and SPICE as well. It is indeed an honour to work together as a family with all of them. Barakallahu fikum!
